The villages in this region of high Albania are very poor and isolated, being cut off by the winter snows for four months of the year. The wedding was arranged and Lilina, from another village, is about to leave her home to enter a house full of strangers, where she will spend the rest of her life. Throughout the day of partying and singing, Lilina spent most of the time in tears. It's a tradition to do this, but it's reinforced by her father's gift to the new husband, a trousseau bullet, a symbolic gift, but one to be used in the event of a desertion or infidelity.
